Bailey Foundation recieves Grant from The Hong Kong Parrot Club

Not long ago, The Bailey Foundation received an e-mail from The Hong Kong Parrot Club informing us that they have sent us a Grant. The following is an exerpt from that e-mail that was sent to us by Jenny Wong, a member of The Hong Kong Parrot Club.

I was searching information on parrots on the internet and found the parrotparrot forum. I joined it and met Cyndi (Bailey Foundation Volunteer). I then heard about the Bailey Foundation from her and another lady KitiKat (her nickname in the forum and another Bailey Foundation Volunteer). I checked out your website and saw the pictures of the birds and how the Foundation is helping these birds. I then posted the information on our club forum to share with other members. A member from the committee saw my post and asked me if the Bailey Foundation accepts donations. I told her yes. Many members also replied that they wanted to show some support and appreciation for what the Bailey has done to help these birds.

I think all of us saw the pictures of the birds and decided that we should do something. We all love birds. We understand that there are just too many birds waiting to be rescued and taken good care of by organizations like the Bailey Foundation but resources are limited. Cyndi also told me that there are many rescue centers in the states but even so there are still not enough.

We did talked about which one we should donate but seemed everyone agreed that if it was not the Bailey Foundation, we would not have known about all these rescue programs. This is why we wanted to make the donation to the Bailey Foundation. We have also decided to set up an annual donation every year before christmas to either the Bailey Foundation or some other rescue center from now on. We are not in the states, and I think this is our only way to show our love and care.

We don’t have any similar organizations in Hong Kong. The avian market in Hong Kong is just too small and immature. We have lots of birds suffering from all kinds of illness and mostly are the birds waiting to be sold at the bird market here. The bird traders here just never care about birds. All they want is to make money. We don’t have any professional breeders here. We don’t even have enough avian vets here. There is one but still she is not good enough compared to those in the west. We really don’t have much choice and all we can do is to give the best food and living environment to our birds so to reduce the chance of getting sick. I truly hope that one day we have the power and knowledge to set up our own rescue and education center like the Bailey Foundation.

We would like to thank The Hong Kong Parrot Club for their generosity and support. It is through organizations like this that show bird people stick together no matter where they are.
