A Day in the Life of a Bird Mom and Dad

Get up each morning and open the cages,
good morning kids, haven’t seen you in ages.
Open the doors and clean up the poop
give everyone their pellets, now just one scoop!
Next fix the oatmeal cause it’s good for you
then give each one a peanut or two.
Go to each bird and give them a hug,
be real good today, stay warm and snug.
Say goodbye as you go out the door
wanting to stay and play some more.
I hate leaving them all alone,
wish they were smart enough to pick up the phone.
Oh well I need to work to bring home more toys
Cause birds cost so much, but bring us such joy
Feeling lonely and working so hard all day,
wanting to be home so that we can play.
4:30 has come and I get in my car
I’m tired and grumpy; home isn’t too far.
I open the door hoping for peace and quiet
My goodness it sounds just like a riot
Henry is yelling Hello, Hello
Buffy is restless wanting to go
And Angel is screaming to open the door
oops look our Rocky is down on the floor
Run around catching all the fids
They are just as bad as little kids
I put them all in their favorite play places
They have gleeful looks on their little faces
There is nothing like being a bird mom I say
Each one has it’s own special way
to let you know that they love you
aren’t you glad you love them too?
Back to the poop all over the floor
clean it up, wait, there’s some more
now it’s time to play a little, hug a lot
Watch their antics and laugh when they hop
Then all to soon it’s bed time again
cover their cages and say with a grin
nitey nite little birdies, I love you all
I’m tired and weary as I walk down the hall
Too many birds you might say
but I get the same response from them each day
Unconditional love, wing hugs and kisses
I wouldn’t change it for all the world’s riches.
